Brief Introduction

I am Distinguished Full Professor at Shenzhen University.

Prior to this, I was an Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Engineering at King’s College London (QS ranking top 35 universities in the world), and was an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University, affiliated with the Microwave and Antenna Engineering Research Group. I previously worked as Postdoctoral Research Associate at widely recognized group of Prof. Yi Huang (FIEEE) at the University of Liverpool where I also received my PhD (2017), MSc (2013) and BEng (2012) degrees all in electrical engineering and electronics.

My research experience has been interdisciplinary, covering both microwave engineering, telecommunications, and radical material science, as well as the coupled electromagnetic and mechanical analysis for flexible and stretchable devices and sensors. My major research interests (with measurable track record) including:

(i) Energy harvesting and wireless power transfer technologies (via far-field RF, mmWave and near-field coupling) (ii) Stretchable and flexible electronics, sensors, and RF devices. (iii) Metamaterials and metasurfaces in communication, energy harvesting and sensing technologies. (iv) Dielectric antennas, dielectric resonators, liquid antennas and fluidi

Working Experience

Distinguished Professor, College of Electronics and Information Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Radio Frequency Heterogeneous Integration, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China Sep. 2023 – present

I am currently with the Shenzhen University as Affiliate Distinguished Professor. I am leading a research team of 10 PhD/MSc students and a number of visiting fellows.

Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor), Department of Engineering, King’s College London, UK Mar. 2023 – Sep. 2023

I am leading a research team consists of 8 PhD students and 2 Postdoc researchers at King’s College London.

Assistant Professor, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, UK Mar. 2020 – Mar. 2023

I was an Assistant Professor in Antennas, Electromagnetics and Wireless Communications within the Institution of Sensors, Signals and Systems (ISSS) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

I led a research team of 5 PhD students and annually taught 2 courses to undergraduate students.

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Department of EEE & Department of Chemistry, UoL, UK Jul. 2017 – May 2020

Working on a £587k EPSRC project –Liquid Antennas.

Developed and characterized more than 100 ionic dielectric liquids for RF applications. These liquids are low-loss, non- flammable, and have a very stable material property.

A new class of liquid antennas with gravity-based passive beam-steering feature, re-configurability, flexibility, miniaturised size, and wide bandwidth were designed.

Research Assistant & Antenna Design Engineer, UoL and BAE Systems, Chelmsford, UK     Mar. 2015 – Aug. 2016 Worked on a £650k DSTL and Innovate UK project – Compact GNSS Antennas (Phase 1 and Phase 2)

I was the antenna design engineer and core team member for this project led by Rob Lewis and Prof Yi Huang.

Designed 2 compact GNSS antennas using cutting-edge metamaterial technologies. Successfully helped the team to win the final project competition in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 (among 13 industrial competitors).

PhD Researcher, Department of EEE, UoL, UK (advisorProf Yi Huang) Nov. 2013 – Jul. 2017

Fully funded PhD studentship (by EPSRC and Aeterum Solutions Inc.). Planned, organized and carried out long-term and short-term research projects with minimal supervision; quickly learned complex laboratory procedures; designed, fabricated, and tested a number of innovative antennas, microwave circuits and systems for various applications. Published more than 30 papers (13 as first author) in top internationally refereed journals and conference proceedings on the topic of wireless energy harvesting. Two have been selected as ESI Highly Cited papers.
