The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Radio Frequency and Antenna Technologies Held Successfully by Shenzhen University

From May 23 to May 25, 2025 8th IEEE International Workshop on Radio Frequency and Antenna Technologies (IEEE iWRF&AT 2025 or RFAT 2025) was successfully held in Shenzhen, China. The purpose of this conference is to strengthen exchanges and interactions among scholars in the fields of antennas, radio frequency, communication, computing, and other related areas both domestically and internationally. At the same time, it aims to provide a high-level academic exchange platform to promote international exchanges and cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

IEEE RFAT Academic Conference was founded by Shenzhen University and jointly organized with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society-Shenzhen Chapter provides technical guidance. The conference has received strong support from institutions such as State Key Laboratory of Radio Frequency Heterogeneous Integration, the Sino-British Antennas and Propagation Joint Laboratory of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Guangdong Engineering Research Center for Base Station Antennas and Propagation, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Heterogeneous Integration Technology, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Antennas and Propagation, and College of Electronics and Information Engineering and so on. Academician Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University acts as the General Chair of IEEE RFAT, and Professor Yejun He of College of Electronics and Information Engineering serves as the Executive Chair of IEEE RFAT.

The conference has invited renowned experts from home and abroad, including Academician Zhi Ning Chen from the National University of Singapore, Prof. Mohammad S. Obaidat from the University of Jordan, Academician Kwai-Man Luk from City University of Hong Kong, Prof. Stefano Maci from the University of Siena in Italy, Academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of Canada, Prof. Weihua Zhuang of the University of Waterloo, Prof. Christophe Fumeaux from the University of Queensland in Australia, Prof. Wei Hong from Southeast University, as well as Prof. Jiro Hirokawa from Tokyo Institute of Technology, to deliver keynote speeches.

The opening ceremony on May 24th was hosted by Professor He Yejun from Shenzhen University. Academician Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University, delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. In his speech, President Mao warmly welcomed the keynote speakers, domestic and overseas guests, and all authors of the papers, expressing his heartfelt gratitude. He introduced the teaching, research, and talent cultivation situation of Shenzhen University. As the founder of this international academic conference, Shenzhen University gathered with all the experts and scholars to build an academic exchange platform for everyone to share innovative academic research results.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Christophe Fumeaux, President of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society (AP-S) and faculty member at The University of Queensland, Australia, presented an overview of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society's historical development, core mission, and strategic objectives.

Academician Zhi Ning Chen delivered a presentation entitled "Single-mode Dual-band Metantenna Using Lorentz-type Dispersive Metamaterials"; Prof. Mohammad S. Obaidat gave a report entitled "Malicious Activity Detection in IoT-Enabled Networks and IoT Systems via Metaheuristic Optimization and Machine Learning Techniques"; Academician Kwai-Man Luk presented a keynote talk on "Advanced Antenna Technology for Communications, Sensing and WPT-The Magnetoelectric (ME) Dipole"; Prof. Stefano Maci delivered a presentation entitled "GRIN and Metalens Antennas".

On the morning of May 25, the four keynote speakers were as follows:

Prof. Weihua Zhuang delivered a presentation entitled "Intelligent Network Management for 6G"; Prof. Christophe Fumeaux gave a presentation entitled "Wearable Antennas in All Shapes and Sizes"; Prof. Wei Hong gave a presentation entitled "Research Advances in Ultra-High-Speed Millimeter-Wave Communication Technologies"; Prof. Jiro Hirokawa delivered a keynote on "Numerical Design of One-Dimensional Switching Matrices With an Arbitrary Number of Beams and Application to Millimeter-Wave Two-Dimensional Ones".

The conference officially spans two and a half days, featuring eight keynote presentations, and 30 oral presentations in parallel sessions. The eight keynote speeches were hosted by Dr. Tianwei Deng from Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. Amir Boag from Tel Aviv University in Israel, Prof. Chaoyun Song from Shenzhen University, Prof. Steven Gao from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Lei Chen from Georgia State University in the United States, Dr. Wei LIN from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr. Wenting Li from Shenzhen University, and Dr. Shuang Ji from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., China.

Orally presented papers that meet IEEE standards and quality requirements will be included in the IEEE Conference Proceedings and indexed by EI. This conference marks further enhancement of our college's international influence in the fields of Electronic Science and Technology, and Information and Communication Engineering. The conference has received wide recognition and high praise from the participants, injecting new vitality into the international academic exchange and technological innovation in the field of radio frequency and antenna technology in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. IEEE RFAT 2025 strictly follows the IEEE international conference steps, setting up events such as Welcome Reception, Banquet Dinner, Outstanding Patron Award, Best Paper Award, and so on.
