From May 17 to 19, 2024, at the "8th National Summit Forum on Cultivating System Competence in Computer Science for Universities," hosted by the Ministry of Education's Teaching Steering Committee for Computer Science Programs in Higher Education, Shenzhen University was awarded the honor of "Outstanding Pilot University for Cultivating System Competence in Computer Science" for its "notable reform characteristics and outstanding reform outcomes." Professor Cao Wenming from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering attended the award ceremony.
In 2010, the Ministry of Education launched the "Research Project on Cultivating System Competence in Computer Science Programs for Higher Education Institutions"under the overall guidance of the Ministry of Education's Teaching Steering Committee for Computer Science Programs in Higher Education.Based on a comprehensive survey and analysis of the current state of computer science education in Chinese universities, combined with the development trends of international computer science education and the extensive practice of demonstration universities within the project team, a curriculum system suitable for cultivating system competence in computer science programs in Chinese universities was proposed.
To further promote curriculum and course reforms aimed at cultivating system competence across different types and levels of universities, the Teaching Steering Committee initiated the construction of pilot universities under the "System Competence Cultivation—Professional Curriculum System and Course Development" program. As of 2023, a total of 132 universities nationwide have been approved as pilot universities for this initiative. Following initial development, 20 universities, including Shenzhen University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, East China Normal University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, have been awarded the title of Outstanding Pilot University.
Thecollegeof Electronics and Information Engineering at our university was approved as part of the second batch of pilot universities with its "Curriculum Plan for Talent Cultivation in Intelligent Systems and Corresponding Professional Reform Plan"in 2018.Based on its own positioning, unique characteristics, and the development of artificial intelligence technology,Shenzhen universityestablished and refined a modern curriculum system aimed at cultivating system competence. This initiative focuses on nurturing outstanding AI talent proficient in the integrated intelligent system of "electronic hardware platform—intelligent manufacturing and design—industrial application."
