On the morning of January 23, 2026, the Youth Volunteer Service Exchange between the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University and the College of Electronic and Information Engineering at Shenzhen University was successfully held in Conference Room N723, Zhixin Building, Canghai Campus of Shenzhen University. With the theme “Collaborative Development of Youth Volunteer Services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, the event aimed to build a solid communication bridge for volunteer service work between the two universities, encourage mutual learning and resource sharing, and explore new ways to promote coordinated development of youth volunteer services in the Greater Bay Area. Leaders of Youth League committees, student cadres, and key members of volunteer associations from both universities took part in the meeting.
At the beginning of the forum, representatives from both sides introduced the attending participants, which paved the way for in-depth communication. After that, Zhang Chunguang, a full-time member of the Youth League Committee at Shenzhen University, gave a detailed introduction to the general development of the university’s Youth League Committee and Volunteer Federation. Zhong Shaoxiao, leader of the Volunteer Association at the College of Electronic and Information Engineering, shared the college’s featured volunteer programs and practical experience in volunteer service development.
During the discussion session, the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University carried out in-depth exchanges focusing on two key areas.
In terms of volunteer service organization and platform building, Liu Guohao, Secretary of the Youth League Committee at the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, focused on Shenzhen University’s volunteer service mechanism under the “University-Community Co-construction” model, the volunteer coordination system for major cross-Strait and international youth exchange activities, and the unique application of professional resources from different colleges in volunteer services. He expressed the hope that such experience could help universities and cities in the Greater Bay Area form a stronger, professional complementary force in volunteer services. The two sides also had a lively discussion on empowering volunteer services with digital technology, sharing how Shenzhen University students carry out online volunteer activities with support from internet companies and how the “Volunteer in Shenzhen” system facilitates volunteer work. They also looked forward to the integration of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and volunteer services such as cross-border elderly care and emergency rescue. The visiting students from Tsinghua University showed great interest in the Electronic Repair Volunteer Group of the College of Electronic and Information Engineering at Shenzhen University, recognizing how it fully applies electronic and information engineering expertise to volunteer services.
Regarding the educational and social values of volunteer services, the two sides exchanged views on how volunteer services help young people integrate into society, strengthen cultural identity, and contribute to innovative community-level social governance. Zhang Chunguang from Shenzhen University shared typical cases including volunteer teaching in less developed educational areas in eastern and western Guangdong and other provinces, as well as community surveys such as the “Hundreds, Thousands and Tens of Thousands” Project and the “Happiness Lane” research program. These examples showed the diverse value of volunteer services in enhancing young people’s national identity, building social networks, and supporting community-level governance. Li Boyuan, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee at the College of Electronic and Information Engineering of Shenzhen University, introduced the idea and practice of combining undergraduate and postgraduate students to promote youth volunteer services. Through cooperation between undergraduate and postgraduate students, experience inheritance and professional complementation are achieved, which further improves the depth and sustainability of volunteer services and supports the growth of young volunteers. Students from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University also raised questions and thoughts on the long-term mechanism of collaborative volunteer services in the Greater Bay Area and ways to empower services with technology. The two sides reached consensus through active and constructive communication.
This exchange provided an effective communication platform for youth volunteer service leaders from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University and the College of Electronic and Information Engineering at Shenzhen University. In the future, the two colleges will continue to deepen their cooperation and jointly promote higher-quality development of youth volunteer services in the Greater Bay Area in terms of resource sharing, technological integration and talent cultivation. They will also contribute more strength from “SZU Youth” to the construction of Shenzhen’s “City of Volunteers 4.0” and the growth of young people.
