Abstract:

Effective decision making is often difficult, requiring complex \r
reasoning in the precence of much uncertainty (both in data and in domain \r
knowledge). In this talk, I shall present some of the recent work we have \r
carried out in modelling uncertainty whilst performing various clustering and \r
classification tasks to support decision making in several high risk problem \r
domains. In particular, I will focus on the variability exhibited by human \r
decision makers, and how modelling this may lead to improved decision making. \r

Bio:

Professor Jon Garibaldi received the BSc degree in Physics from \r
University of Bristol, UK, in 1984, and MSc degree and PhD degree from the \r
University of Plymouth, UK, in 1990 and 1997, respectively. Prof. Garibaldi is \r
currently Head of School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, Head of \r
the Intelligent Modelling and Analysis (IMA) Research Group, Member of the Lab \r
for Uncertainty in Data and Decision Making (LUCID) and joint Director of the \r
Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC). His main research interests include \r
modelling uncertainty and variation in human reasoning, and in modelling and \r
interpreting complex data to enable better decision making, particularly in \r
medical domains. Prof. Garibaldi is the current Editor-in-Chief of IEEE \r
Transactions on Fuzzy Systems. He has served regularly in the organising \r
committees and programme committees of a range of leading international \r
conferences and workshops, such as FUZZ-IEEE, WCCI, EURO and PPSN.
